Creating a Vision Board
A visual representation of my ideal world
Now is the Perfect Time to Visualize Your Future
The start of a new year is a great time to take some quiet time and visualize your ideal year. Close your eyes and visualize what this looks like. Where are you? Who is with you? What are you doing? What is surrounding you? How does this space make you feel? What do you see? What do you smell?
You get the picture, literally. Now write down what you were envisioning. Don’t worry about whether this is realistic; just write down what you saw, felt, and did.
Now, it’s your turn to have fun. Decide whether you want to create a physical board that you can see in your space or a digital one that you can view on your computer or phone. The choice is entirely yours.
Camille Styles has a digital template and a real board you can purchase. You can also simply buy one from a local store or on Amazon. This can be as high-end or low-end as you want.
There is no right or wrong way to create your board.
It’s your unique vision, so find pictures in magazines or on the internet that truly resonate with your ideal world. Whether you put up a few pictures or 50, the key is to make the board that brings your vision to life, reflecting your personal journey.
The board’s importance is that it is a reminder during the day of what you would like your life to look like. As you plan your day, week, and month, look to see how what you are currently doing is helping you create your ideal world.
If you have a picture of skiing, are you saving the money for the trip you want to take? You could set up an account and have a portion of your paycheck directly deposited into the vacation account. Or did you take the $50 to buy a new sweater? If you envision dressing well for your new job, this would also align with your goals.
Remember, either choice is okay. Just acknowledge that you are working towards this life or choosing something else. There is no judgment either way, just the comfort of knowing that you are in control of your journey.
Your vision board may represent your life in a month or a decade—the choice is yours—but it is a visual representation of where you would like to be.
Once your board is complete, place it in a spot where you’ll see it every day. Whether it’s a physical board in your home or a digital one on your desktop, make sure it’s in a place that’s just for you.
If it is digital, put it on your desktop so you see it whenever you open your computer. This is a reminder that you can spend time creating your business, studying for an exam to level up in your profession, or scrolling social media.
Again, acknowledge that you have the power to choose how you spend your time on your computer. This freedom is yours, and it’s a powerful tool in shaping your future.
My vision board is on the wall my desk faces. It includes a little bit of health, a new home, and professional goals. It is out of sight from Zoom calls, but it is not so personal that my family can’t see it.
Enjoy the process and prepare for a year reflecting on your ideal life.
